Technology and Artificial Intelligence

Software now mediates how people are hired, credited, treated and policed. The people writing it are making moral decisions at a scale no previous generation of engineers faced, usually without anyone naming them as such.

What we want to help solve

  • Automated decisions that affect people's livelihoods with no route to challenge them
  • Products optimised for attention rather than for the person using them
  • Model and data governance treated as a compliance task rather than a design constraint
  • Access gaps that leave whole regions building on infrastructure they do not control

The questions it raises

  • What decisions must keep a human being answerable for them?
  • Who bears the cost when a system is wrong, and do they know it was a system?
  • What does honest capability marketing look like when the technology is genuinely uncertain?
  • When is the right answer not to build it?

Shifts reshaping this domain

  • Applied AI
  • Data infrastructure
  • Automation of knowledge work
  • Digital identity

Competencies formation develops

  • Model and data governance
  • Product ethics and design responsibility
  • Technical leadership under uncertainty
  • Communicating capability honestly

The Technology and AI council

Coming soon

Councils open where we have the faculty, participants and research capacity to run them properly. When this one opens it will carry mentors from the domain, published research, roundtables and reported outcomes. None of that exists yet.

What a transcript is worth

The case for doing the boring accessibility work does not rest on obligation. It rests on the fact that it is the highest-return thing most Christian publishers are not doing.
