Editorial and corrections policy

Anyone deciding whether to trust what we publish is entitled to know how it was made, who approved it, and what happens when we get something wrong.

Who writes for us

Articles are published under one of two attributions.

Voice of Generations Editorial is our institutional byline. It is used where a piece represents the organisation's settled position rather than an individual's argument, and where the work has been developed by more than one person. It is not a pseudonym for a single writer.

A named author is used where a piece is that person's own argument. Named authors carry a biography, their relevant expertise, and any interests relevant to what they are writing about.

We do not publish under invented names, and we do not attribute work to a person who did not write it or approve it.

How a piece is reviewed before publication

Every item passes through the review stages its subject requires. Nothing skips a stage because of deadline pressure.

Editorial review

Clarity, evidence, rights, and whether the piece is on-brand and accurate. Applies to everything.

Theological review

Required where a piece teaches doctrine or spiritual practice. Carried out by the theological council once appointed.

Legal and finance review

Required for anything touching money, regulated topics, giving, claims about outcomes, or politics.

Safeguarding review

Required for anything involving children, vulnerable adults, testimonies, or pastoral content.

Each page and article records its owner, its reviewer, its approval status and its next review date. That record is published on the page itself, so a reader can see who is accountable for what they are reading without asking.

No individual both creates and approves high-risk content. Where that has to happen exceptionally, it is logged.

Standards we hold ourselves to

Claims carry evidence. Where we state a figure we publish its definition, date range, geography, method and evidence status.
No invented statistics, ever. If we do not have a verified number, the page says we do not have one.
No stock imagery presented as documentary. Our editorial images are representative. They are never captioned or positioned to suggest that the people shown are VOG leaders, staff, participants, beneficiaries, pastors or partners.
Testimonies require consent. Specific, informed, freely given and revocable, recorded with a scope and a review date, and never a condition of receiving anything from us.
Sources are named where naming them is safe and permitted.
We do not run experiments on vulnerable readers. No A/B testing of Gospel response, giving, or pastoral pages.

Corrections

If we publish something wrong, we correct it. The rules are simple and deliberately inconvenient for us.

We do not quietly edit. A material change is published as a correction, dated, saying what was wrong and what it now says.
A correction has the prominence of the original. If a figure appeared on the homepage, the correction appears on the homepage.
Material corrections also appear in the next report, so they cannot be lost by being fixed quickly.
Non-material changes — a typo, a broken link, clearer phrasing that does not change meaning — are made without a notice, and the page's review date is updated.

If you think something we have published is inaccurate, please tell us. You do not need to be certain, and you do not need to be polite about it.

Content review and retirement

Everything we publish carries a scheduled review date. At review, a piece is confirmed, corrected, updated or retired. Retired content is not silently deleted — where a URL has been shared or cited, it is redirected or kept with a notice explaining that it has been superseded.

How AI is used

AI assists with transcription, tagging against our controlled taxonomy, first-draft translation, search and administrative triage. Human review is required before anything is published.

AI does not write our editorial content. Where it has materially assisted in producing something published — a translation or a transcript — that is disclosed on the item.

AI plays no part in deciding anything that affects a person: not salvation, not doctrinal fitness, not eligibility for pastoral support, not safeguarding outcomes, not funding, not admissions. There is no AI on this site presented as a pastor, a counsellor, or as our founder.

Advertising and independence

We do not carry advertising. We do not accept payment for editorial coverage, and we do not publish content supplied by a funder as though it were our own. Where a piece of research is funded, the funding is disclosed on the piece, along with any interests held by its authors.
